Coffee With Characters: Marc Ross Blaque Beauty and the Billionaire

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself! Tell us who you are and what you do! Are you the main character in the story or a supporting role? My name is Marc Ross and I am the male lead in Blaque Beauty and the Billionaire.
What do you do for a living?

I am a (very) successful property developer and hotelier. My mother would say I am a work-a-holic and she would probably be right. My father and grandfather were both developers and it’s in my blood. There’s nothing like the feeling of conceptualizing a hotel or a residential or commercial space and seeing that vision come to life. My properties are almost like real people to me, with their own personalities and characters. I’m also a tech start-up investor.
Erin

How old are you?
39 years young!

Tell us about your story. What is it about and what role do you play?
I am the guy who was lucky enough to meet and fall head over heels with the amazing Marlee Winters. She’s unlike any woman I have ever met and It’s going to take a bit of doing for her to see that her first impressions of me are not wrong. But she’s worth it!

Can you tell us about one of your most distinguishable features?
I’ve been told I have beautiful eyes. I actually got them from my dad, who was rather embarrassed by them because he was a no-nonsense man who didn’t like unnecessary attention. Our eyes are a weird sort of medium blue with darker blue in the irises. It’s not something I think about much until someone mentions it but, yeah, it’s kind of cool.

Do you have any birthmarks or tattoos?
Yes, I have a tattoo on my left shoulder blade of an archangel in memory of my older brother Philip who died in a skiing accident in Switzerland. I also have a tattoo of an Egyptian Ankh below my left ribcage. I got it on a spring break trip to Alexandria with my best friend Everett.

Would you ever want to go hang out with your author? If so, what would you do together?
You know what, I would actually. She is a homebody and I think she should get out more. We both have a love for art, French cuisine and classical architecture so I would fly her to the South of France for a castle tour. Knowing her she would find a way to incorporate it into a new book!

If you could have a super power what would it be, and why?
I wouldn’t mind the ability to read minds. It would have saved me a lot of trouble and money over the years, lol. I can’t think of anything else. I’m a very fortunate individual who has been given opportunities to do a lot of good in the world. But the ability to know exactly what people are all about, what they really want or need or what they’re afraid of could be pretty useful.

What is your biggest pet peeve when dealing with others?
I’m not the most patient person, lol. I don’t like when people don’t know what they want or what they need. To me it means they haven’t taken more time to figure out who they are and what makes them tick. I’ve learned that if you don’t have a strong sense of yourself there are people out there who will be happy to try and define you. I also don’t like phonies. Wealthy people seem to attract superficial people so I’ve gotten to the point where people who are honest and genuinely kind with integrity attract me the most.

What would I love the most about you?
Lol, I’m probably the only billionaire you’ll ever meet with a separate kitchen just for baking – I love to cook! I created a special cupcake filling just for Marlee. Her dad is from the South and her mom is Jamaican so I used passionfruit, mango and strawberries to make a one of a kind dessert for her parents’ 40th wedding anniversary party.

What would I hate the most about you?
Oh wow! Honesty is the best policy, right? I can be a little possessive, as in a lot. I’m not controlling but I’m not big on sharing the people I care about. My mom says I’ve always been that way lol. I should also learn to be a better listener. I’ve gotten used to giving orders lol.
Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?
Yes, probably a little too accurately – it got me into some hot water!

What is your idea of a perfect day?
Spending time with my dreamgirl – basically convincing her to let me send my plane for her for weekends at the lodge. She’s also really focused on her career. We’re both very active. I’ve gotten her into hiking and she’s gotten me into trail riding. So a perfect day would be riding in the Rockies, dinner at an inn tucked away in the mountains and then a game of strip Scrabble by the fire in our suite. We have yet to finish a game 😉
What is your greatest fear?
Wasting my opportunities, my potential. My father and brother left way too soon and now it’s all on me. They were both good men, strong men who believed you haven’t lived unless you leave something good behind. I can die happy if I’ve done that.
Someone is secretly in love with you. Who is it and how do you feel about that?
Whoa! Um, well, a few months ago I would have hoped that person was Marlee! Now I know it is so, yeah, I’m really in a good place now. I’m afraid, however, that you’re referring to my ex. That situation is so absolutely over and I guess I would just say that I wish this level of happiness I now have with Marlee for everyone else out there.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A property developer like my father and grandfather. I was the one kid you did not want to play Monopoly with!
If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today? Honestly, spend the day with my mom and my sweetheart. We would simply spend the day reaffirming what we mean to each other.
What is the one food you can’t live without?
Sushi!
If they turned the book into a movie, who would be cast to play you
Lol, tough one…maybe Jakob Dylan? He’s not an actor so is that cheating? Okay, maybe a less squinty version of Eddie Cibrian lol.

Special Edition Coffee With Characters Cover Reveal

ASGfE Kindle Edition (1)
Thank you so much for joining us today Ellie!

Can you tell us about yourself?
My name is Ellie Whitmore. Well, El’iadrylline Whitmore, but not even mom uses my full name and she’s the one who saddled me with it. I was born in London, but currently reside in New York, where I attend university.

How old are you?
I’ve just turned twenty-one.

Tell us about your story. What is it about and what role do you play?
Oh boy, my role. I’m only just finding that out. You see, not long ago, I thought my biggest worry was the organic chem final I’d just failed. It’s a required class for environmental engineering and I’d hoped to one day use my degree and social status (my parents are pretty well known celebrities) to make a difference in the world. But apparently, I’m a space alien. Not only that, I’m some sort of “chosen one” and I’m supposed to save a whole planetary system from an evil emperor. I still haven’t quite reconciled that in my mind yet. I mean, really, me?

Can you tell us about one of your most distinguishable features?
My spots. Ugh. I have these marks all over my body, kind of like freckles, but they’re really bright white and they kind of form these geometric patterns that are definitely not random. Mom tried to explain them away as Vitiligo (that’s the skin condition Michael Jackson had), but no, they’re communication diodes and apparently a trait I share with my birth father’s people.

The geometric patterns on your skin, do they do anything?
They do quite a bit, actually. I can transfer information to my ship and I can silently communicate with another Eidyn through touch. Unfortunately, they also broadcast my emotional state to anyone who understands Eidyssic diode speak, which is kind of embarrassing. Especially when I’m supposed to be saving the world and my mind wanders off to how hot a guy is. Supposedly, I’ll eventually learn to control this. Hopefully soon.

What was it like growing up with famous parents?
I guess I’m privileged. I’ve been all over the world and I’ve met all kinds of celebrities, so it’s really cool, but at the same time, it’s super annoying. Mom’s a supermodel, so people always gush about how gorgeous she is. Don’t get me wrong, mom is a beautiful and exotic woman (really exotic since she’s actually a Korghetian), but everyone acts like my spots are some sort of embarrassment. Richard, my stepfather, is a film director, which is pretty neat. I just learned that some of the shots in his artsy sci-fi film actually used live footage of mom’s spaceship. How cool is that?

Would you ever want to hang out with your author? If so, what would you do together?
Maybe. She seems pretty cool and open-minded. In fact, she’s a lot like my friend Bethany (don’t tell her I said this, but I think she wrote Bethany to be like her, but cooler). I know she’d totally hang out at MochaMoka with us because she’s a coffee addict. But I’d probably ask her why she had to go and give me these spots. I know why she made me tall. She’s tall, so she made me taller than her. Kind of rotten to just pile these things on, isn’t it?

If you could have a super power, what would it be, and why?
Well, I kind of have the most powerful relic in the galaxy woven into my genetic makeup, but I’m not sure that’s a super power. Especially since I have yet to figure out if this is truly a good thing or not. So I’ll say invisibility. When you’re weird looking and famous, it’s difficult to stay anonymous.

What is your biggest pet peeve when dealing with others?
When people think they can say anything because I’m “famous.” I have feelings too.
Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?
She did a pretty good job, though I think she spent far too much time talking about my appearance.

What is your idea of a perfect day?
Vegging out and binge watching television with the ringer off on my phone.

What is your greatest fear?
That I’m not going to live up to the absolutely insanely crazy high expectation that I’m somehow going to save the galaxy.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An astronaut, if you must know. Talk about irony.

If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?
I’d run myself ragged trying to have one last moment with everyone I hold dear to my heart so that I can tell them how much they mean to me and thank them for being in my life.

What is the one food you can’t live without?
New York style pizza. Mom would tell you that Italy is the only place to get good pizza, but she’s dead wrong. New York pizza is the only pizza.

Coffee With Characters Eddie from Written in Blood

Nathan

Thank you so much for joining us today!  Please introduce yourself!

Hey, Ember.  And thank you for finally giving me my due.  It’s not often that the real reason people read books get some attention.  Yeah, sure, the author has the job of putting our words down, but we all know that it’s us characters that truly run the show.  Am I right?

Tell us who you are and what you do!

I’ve always been called Eddie, and nothing else.  Well, that’s not completely true, I suppose.  My dad always had some rather choice names for me whenever I messed up.  Or if he was high or drunk; or both on some occasions.  But I don’t really want to go into that right now.  I’ll save that for another time.   And as for what I do?  I kill people.  Not for a living, mind you.  It’s more of a therapeutic thing for me.  It kinda helps push the monsters back into the shadows, for a time, anyway.

Are you the main character in the story or a supporting role?

Well, as much as it pains me to say it, I share the lead with my nemesis, Detective Collins.  Although I think Nathan gave way too many chapters to Ken.  He should have focused a little more on me.  After all, if it weren’t for me, there really wouldn’t be much of a story.  I mean, it IS a crime novel.  If I didn’t do my part, there’d be no need for Ken.

How old are you?

That isn’t discussed in the book.  Just one more of my points about Nathan not focusing enough on me.  But that’s neither here nor there.  I’m somewhere in the neighborhood of thirty years old.  Can’t be completely certain, as I haven’t seen a bio on me anywhere in Nathan’s notes.  Not like he has for Ken, that’s for sure.  I drive the story, but does he try, even a little, to focus on me?  Hardly.

Sorry, when it comes to Ken, I just can’t seem to let go of my anger.  I’ll try to stay focused.

Tell us about your story.  What is it about and what role do you play?

As I mentioned before, it’s a crime novel.  Ken, excuse me, Detective Collins, is just finishing up his rookie year in the Homicide Division of the Foley Police Department, when his world comes crashing down on him.  Not only has his dad’s illness returned, but Ken begins having some physical and emotional issues.  And thanks to his meddling Christian partner, Senior Detective John Filcher, he starts thinking about his eternal security.

As for me, I’ve been locked away for years, watching and waiting for a chance to escape and exact some revenge.  Ken is the main reason I’ve been out of the limelight for so long, and I’ve grown tired of seeing him get to be free and live whatever kind of life he’s wanted.  Needless to say, I’ve planned for a long time to get back at him.  I’ve wanted nothing more than to knock him off his feet and see how well he adapts to having his world turned upside down and inside out.  And that’s just what I do.  After I get free from my imprisonment, I set my plan in motion, and I start killing prostitutes.  That goes back to the therapeutic thing I was talking about earlier.

Anyway, Ken and John must catch me if they want the killings to end.  I certainly won’t stop on my own.  Along the way, I eliminate some undercover cops, and an operative of the Governor’s ‘Special Crimes Division’.

Can you tell us about one of your most distinguishable features?

That would probably be my eyes.  There’s nothing really distinguishable about them, per se, other than the coldness locked inside them.  You aren’t likely to get a caring glance or see love in them.  You certainly wouldn’t find them too pleasant if you were on the receiving end of my cold glare.  Not unless you want to feel a chill run down your spine.  John can tell you about that, if you ever interview him.

Do you have any birthmarks or tattoos?

No.  I have considered getting a tattoo, but I’m too afraid of needles.

Would you ever want to hang out with your author?  If so, what would you do together?

I wouldn’t have a problem hanging out with Nathan, but I can’t say the same thing for him.  I don’t think he’d enjoy any of the fun I could show him.  He’s too much of a goody two-shoes.  At least he is since he found God.

If you could have a super power, what would it be, and why?

Hmm.  Most definitely invisibility.  Imagine what I could get away with if no one could see me!

What is your biggest pet peeve when dealing with others?

People!  Do you really want to go there?  Ok.  A lot of people don’t show the real them.  They wear a mask to hide their true identity.  They act one way to your face, but become someone totally different when the chance arises.  At least I let my victims know up front what kind of person I am.  I’m a straight shooter, figuratively, and literally, as you’ll see when you read the book.

What would I love the most about you?

Probably nothing.  I’m a cold and calloused individual, for the most part.  Comes from the upbringing, I would say.  I don’t know how anybody could be different than I am, if they had to grow up as me.

What would I hate most about you?

Pretty much everything.  See the previous answer for clarification.

Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?

No.  I think he took a little too much artistic license in portraying me and my emotions.  Maybe if he spent a day alone with me, and he managed to survive, then he might be able to better articulate the depth of my anger and cold-heartedness.

What is your idea of a perfect day?

Perfect day?  Is there such a thing?  Not where I come from.  But just for the sake of an interesting interview, I’ll say that the perfect day would be being able to do whatever I wanted, without the fear of consequences.  Who wouldn’t want that kind of freedom?  I bet if you took a poll right now, most of your fans would agree with me.  Go ahead, I’ll wait…

…See?  What’d I tell you?  Never underestimate the depravity of the average person.  That’s what I always say.

What is your greatest fear?

That’s an easy one.  Getting locked away again, for good.  The first time was bad enough, but I don’t think even I could deal with another extended stay in solitary confinement.  In there, I have no way to release those sadistic little monsters running around in my head.  They’re enough to drive a guy crazy.  Or do you think I’m already there?  You can be honest with me.  I can take it.

May I ask you a question, Ember?  If you’re crazy, do you think you know you are, or does someone need to tell you?  And if they told you, would it even matter?  You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to.  Just thought I’d ask.

Someone is secretly in love with you.  Who is it and how do you feel about that?

Samantha Adamson.  That would be absolutely perfect.  It would go so far into helping mess Ken’s life up.  He’s so smitten with her, I think it would actually destroy him.  Of course, I’ve thought more than once about doing away with her, just to see Ken’s reaction.  Did I?  Well, you’ll just have to read the book to find out.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Normal.  My life was too much of a wreck to even think about dreaming of growing up.  Now Ken, he had plenty of time to think about having a normal life and dream about what he would be when he grew up.  I’ve had plenty of envy over him where that is concerned.  I guess maybe I did dream of having a life like his.  He’s always been pretty much carefree and happy-go-lucky; even considering some of the hard times he did have early on in life.

If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?

As much as I could get away with before getting caught!  Oh, you want something specific?  Well, I’ve thought about taking out someone famous.  Who wouldn’t matter, as long as they were high profile.  Even now, just thinking about it, I can imagine my knife blade sliding into their skin; the blood pooling around the handle.  Can you smell their fear?  Feel their quivering skin beneath your touch?  Can you see their soul leaving their body?  Stick with me and I can show you so much more.

What is the one food you can’t live without?

I haven’t been in control of much of my life, so I’ve never really thought about it before.

If they turned the book into a movie, who would be cast to play you?

Who would be cast?  Probably some two-bit character actor not worth the industry minimum.  Who should be cast?  Pacino, De Niro or Hopkins would be my choice.  Unfortunately, they’re all too old.  Apart from that, it wouldn’t really matter.  I’m probably dead, or they wouldn’t be making a movie.  Would they?

You’ve had enough?  Okay, well, thanks for your time.  And thanks again for talking with the only one deserving the honor.  I’ll be watching…I mean, I’ll see you around.
